Journey to the Written World: Unveiling the Inspiration Behind My Book Reviews

Hi, I'm Izabella and I am a book addict!

As an introverted child with few friends far away, my favorite pastime was reading books. I can still remember my first trip to the local library. I  wanted to borrow three books (which was the limit at that time), but the librarian let me borrow just one book since she thought I would not finish them. I read that book in the evening and went back the next day. Since then I did not want to stop.

I have many notebooks at home full of book reviews I’ve written since third grade, full of writing errors because I apparently didn’t have the patience to learn all the words, so I wrote them by ear. I used to love to write about books and cartoons, and later tv shows I digested in all my free time, so it was obvious to everyone willing to see that my main passions were reading and writing.

In time history became my third major passion, and this one I actually followed more in-depth, and many years later I got my Ph.D. in history, focusing on the 19th century. During this time, I hardly had time to read anything else but history books, and I did not write at all, maybe a few pages here or there. After finishing my Ph.D. I rediscovered myself and my passion for reading and writing. Half a year my main focus was to read everything I could get my hands on.

And many more little aspects. This is not only for people who want to start in digital marketing, but for everyone who wants to develop new skills in writing, designing, and sharing their point of view. Having a book review blog helped me be more focused and disciplined.

Most importantly it gives you a voice of your own. And that is the most important part: to find your voice.

I encourage you all, regardless of your age and what people say about you, to read what you like, write what you like, and do what you like. There will always be people who will criticize, but if it makes you happy and free go for it. The internet is big enough for every voice.

Why a personal blog?

Now I work in digital marketing meaning SEO, Social Media Marketing, Content Marketing, and blogging. Working in the field of Digital Marketing incorporates a lot of what I love to do: read, research, write, find new strategies, and the best part is that I do not get bored. But I am still struggling with making my mark. I worked for about a year for a company writing link-building articles, but it was time-consuming, I had to write about topics I had no idea about, the pay was very little, and I did not have my voice. All of this led to a lot of frustration because I felt I was losing my passion for writing and felt fake.

Some people around me told me that starting a book reviews blog later in life is useless and that I should focus on more important skills, so I started this blog two years later than I wanted. I think they are wrong. Seriously wrong! Having a blog helps on so many levels, and any marketer should have one in any niche because it helps:

  • with your critical thinking;
  • improve your writing skills;
  • getting comfortable with time management;
  • be consistent in creating content;
  • creating content calendar.
